Lifting the hose at the gas pump

I see people doing this assuming they are trying to squeeze out extra gasoline left in the hose, but I doubt that it would make any difference since the trigger is in the handle.

I thought people did that because there might be a tiny bit left in the spout and they don't want it to drip on their car or their shoes.

The best way to avoid the drip is to rotate the spigot upside down before removing it. Works perfectly for me, and keeps gas off my hard work detailing the car.

I don't lift the hose, but I do shake the nozzle before removing it from the car. The Mrs. says it must be a guy thing, because she doesn't do it when pumping gas. 😱

I've been a New jersey resident for the last 15 years so I actually don't pump my own anymore.
