Hi, it depends on what you mean by "normal". If by normal you mean that "most" MBP 17" will have this problem, then I would say yes, as I had to go through 4 of the same 2011 17" MBPs to get one with a perfect backlight (as in no bleeding). As with the iPad, I think that MacBook Pros are amazing products, but their screens are total letdowns. Apple should invest in some better solutions and finally get rid of the TN technology and LED Edge lighting in MBPs. IPS + LED Backlit would be great.

My 2-day old MBP 17 has this - thinking about returning it and waiting for the new envy (I would use the MBP mostly with Bootcamp).
