I've noticed the right edge of the screen has some light leakage...at first I thought it was just a reflection of the new chrome on the second gen...but it's definitely not. It's as if the black part of the screen doesn't go all the way to the chrome...

    Anyone else seen such?

it's quite frequent on the left side of iPhones 3G. Try an Apple Store visit if it bothers you.

I have this on the right side and bottom of my 2G 32GB Touch. Did the Apple store replace yours? I already had to take my first one back due to a dead pixel.

Yep, my apple store replaced it in like 5 mins..I won't get home until about 8...so hopefully this new one will be perfect.

Make sure we're referring to the same defect: it's a strip about 1/4 inch wide along the side that appears as if the brightness and contrast in that area are turned way up compared to the blackness of the rest of the screen?

Mine is like the black part of the screen doesn't go all the way to the chrome..so i am getting light from the innards of the ipod.

is it that big of a deal/ could it cause other problems with the ipod? I have a very small one on the left side of my ipod it doesn't bother me and I would have never noticed it if I had not been looking for it. My neotouch case wraps around it so I can't even see it with the case on and its too small to bother me with the case off. If it will cause problems though I don't want to ignore it.

If i press on the side of the ipod it remains so it doesn't seem that it would be from the screen nt being sealed, seems that the black on the backing doesn't meet the bezel and its just clear glass there instead of black

I doubt it will hurt anything..if you don't mind it..it's no biggie. Mine distracted me while I watched video...and my case doesnt cover it.

if it is an actual gap and not just uncolored glass is it likely that dust will get inside the screen?

Hmmm..it's certainly possible...maybe its just that they didn't paint the glass far enough...

what did you tell them? Mine is pretty small but i might just exchange it to be safe. Do they go in the back room and check it out cuz mine is too small to see unless you are in complete darkness. If I bought it from costco I can either take it back to the apple store or costco right? The only thing is I don't think costco will let me inspect a new one for leaks as i would assume the apple store would.

There are many threads on other boards about the "light leak" on the iPhone. some users report that because of this light leak, dust has some how gotten inside the screen.

I just told them that i had some major light leak on the left side and that I couldn't really see it in the well lit store. He took it to the back and came out with it 4 minutes later asking for my receipt.

As long as you are friendly, apple folks are generally more than willing to help you.

yeah I've only had good expriences with them I just don't know if its too small to be warrant a new one. I may just wait and see if it gets bigger or gets dust under the screen. I do still have a full year left, i got the ipod just after Christmas.

Like I said...if it doesn't bother you don't worry about it. Mine was just really bad. The new one seems to be tip top.
