Which conspiracy?

Apple will might move to USB-C for their iOS devices one day, even though with Lightning they have certain advantages with licenses and such and can control the chips inside the cables/adapters. With USB-C there is no "need" for Apple certified USB-C cables.

Wind back the clock and the same stuff was said about the old iPod connector. Thing is.... it never happened!

True, however lightning (its replacement) still enabled apple to do license checking on third party peripherals. USB-C i do not believe has the DRM in it.

We'll see soon enough i guess.
