This adapter is a pretty good solution for someone that wants to use headphones and charge at the same time. Belkin offers something similar, but with two lightning ports instead.

I wonder if any audiophiles out there can say whether or not the split adapter causes further audio quality loss (beyond what's already been said about the included adapter)?

I don't think so, but good question.

Audiophile here ... The split adapter by itself should make no difference ... The question ultimately comes down to the quality of the DAC used in the adapter. If the DAC is good, then it will be good. If the DAC is junk, then the sound will be bad.

From all audiophile reviews so far, The DAC built into the iPhone 6S was "good" (but not excellent). The DAC built into the $9 Apple Lightning -> 3.5mm adapter is "okay" ... Not as good as the 6S built-in jack was.

If you're looking for audiophile quality, best bet is to use something like the Chord Mojo or Geek Out V2+, an external DAC/amp that has a built in battery and can run off your phone, or a Dragonfly Red that can do the same but uses low power draw instead of an internal battery.

wow, 2 stars?

i'll pass
Yea the DACs being used in these cheap Chinese products are terrible. The one I got is similar to this and has a pretty discernible change in audio quality compared to Apple's included adapter.
