What you need to do, is go out and purchase some light bulbs made with LEDs. They are much brighter than either CFLs or Incandescent light, use much less power, and because they are LEDs, they rarely burn out. LEDs are relatively cheap to manufacture, and can be produced domestically.

Well, LED lighting isn't exactly without environmental impact either. You still have to make phosphor coatings for the inside of the bulb to make the light quality pleasing, and some of those can be a bit nasty. More importantly, most LEDs are made from GaAs (as well as InGaN for the blue ones), and the same concerns for the environment come up as a result. Not to mention the relative scarcity of metals such as indium, which may make large scale production difficult.
