Standby Mode is a nice gimmick which caters to a need that should have been provided years ago.
Last night we were staying at a hotel, first time since the iOS 17 upgrade.
When I woke it was light my iPhone (on charger and in landscape position) was black and Standby came on when I touched the screen. A small analogue clock and calendar set to Cupertino time.
The thing is, I've been using Nite Time to display a large, digital, ambient red, time display on this and previous iPhones for years.
My iPhone SE 3 does not have Always On Display, only iPhone 14 onwards has this facility so, even if I could find a bedside clock display that suited me from the myriad of Standby display options it wouldn't stay on. Nite Time on the other hand stays on until closed.
So, yes, it's nice but of no real use to me. Unless you have an iPhone 14 you would need to wake sufficiently to touch the screen in order to see the display, not something I would want to do.
