i was wondering if anyone had any feedback on a freeware application that was like mircosoft paint or close to? i am looking for something that allows me to crop images, add color, add text, zoom in/out, rotate, paste, print etc.. i find that my default picture viewer (preview), i cant do anything with. also why is it that some pics compared to others when i save them off the internet show as preview icons, when others show up as the pics themselves in my pictures folder? how can they all be mini pics of themselves with their name rather then the preview icon? thanks

iPhoto can do all that except add text. The Program GraphicConverter is shareware but it is insanely good (comes free with powerbooks and powermacs).

In your head.
Take a look at HyperJeff.com- A list of software.
This set of filters is for Graphics, Freeware and Open licence.
I just reformated my HD, and I don't remember what freeware/Open licence programs worked best. Download, try, and delete if they don't work for you.

Also from the Forum search:http://forums.macrumors.com/search.php?searchid=1584508- Paint works, so does Graphics.

I reccommed The Gimp. It's a bit like photoshop, but with a few less features. It will be able to do all of the things you asked about. It's GPL licenced, so it's free! Just go that that site and download the mac version.

I just posted an idential thread a few weeks ago. Google "seashore". It's a great app that looks like the Macstyle ms paint.

I had trouble installing this in Windows the first time around. Now I'm on a Mac. Could you link to an installer if they have one? I've been reading around on http://www.macgimp.org/ but I can't see to find a download. Lots of news stories though.
