How likely is it we will see an increase in base storage to 256GB on

a) iPhone 15/Plus
b) iPhone 15 Pro/PM

I personally think that it could happen on the Pro models but is less likely on the standard models. I feel that 256 is now the sweet spot and 128 is in the “not quite enough” territory. Seeing as they last increased the base storage as recently 2021, Apple may well feel they can get away with using the “not quite enough” 128 to upsell people to the 256, particularly on the non pro model for at least this year if not the next couple as well

Do you know why Apple should make iPhone Pro starting at 256GB?

Because it's restricted to shoot in 4k ProRes on 128GB models.

Tell me if you know a better iPhone Pro joke.

Given the expected price increase on the Pro, seems it could be likely. But I think those sweet NAND margins are too lucrative to give up. And it’s not as if there’s not enough differentiators between the regular and Pro models.

I think they’ll only offer 256GB on the Pro and then use that to justify higher base model prices on only the Pro models. We’ll find out though.

likely and will mean higher price.

Higher prices are often rumored each year and this year is no different. However, higher entry storage doesn't necessarily mean higher prices. Apple raised the entry storage of Pro and Pro Max models from 64GB to 128GB in 2020 yet kept U.S. prices the same. They similarly raised the storage of regular and mini models from 64GB to 128GB in 2021 yet also kept U.S. prices the same.

True, but Samsung did the same thing so I suspect Apple will, especially as 3nm chips are more expensive than 5nm and my guess is titanium is more expensive than stainless steel. We’ll find out for sure, but I have a gut feeling. That’s not anything like an actual analysis to be clear, so take it with a grain of salt. You are right that price increases are rumoured every year (for American prices) and they don’t happen so I’m happy if I’m wrong.

Music and photos mainly, prefer to have them downloaded and around 50gb each. By the time you’ve added apps and considered the space the operating system takes up, you’re pushing up against the 128

But you have to take into account that you're in the minority with that and until Apple sees with their statistics that a large majority of the people are filling up their base storage they're not gonna raise it.

Same with macbooks, until it becomes a problem for a large majority of buyers they're not going to change base storage.

Yeah I don’t think they are going to change the base storage for a while, particularly on the non pro models. Even when it becomes the case thst 128 is not quite enough for most users apple will use that to upsell, just as they did blatantly in the 16/64/128 days
