I have noticed this on OSX and IOS.
If I set both phone or MBP to 85% for example, but LEAVE optimized battery charging on....
It seems to do over-ride the 85% and might charge the device to full 100% at time.

Just noticed this on my phone where it charged to 100%
I checked my settings and it reflects as such.

On my MBP, I have it set the same....I used to just have it set of Optimized Charging.
But even hard setting it at 85% but leaving the optimized enabled, it seems to charge past that whenever it decides to do it

That I understand if Optimized is just left on.

What is the behavior rate if I set it to 85% and optimized on. Cause I don't expect it to charge past 85% but it appears with optimized still enabled, it does

It’s all in the linked support article:

“If you have Charge Limit set to less than 100 percent, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.”

Also the same for Apple Watch, AirPods, etc. All perfectly normal.

I see that remark now.....down below in the lighter font.

In that case, I'm not even sure which is the preferred. Just leave it be at 100% and let Optimized do its thing or set a charge rate....which seems to be all the buzzwords on doing it.
