recent versions of the Linux kernel support the Quickcam Pro 9000 directly
I have an old G4 powerbook and actually have a capture program "Cheese" working quite nicely with a powerpc port of ubuntu Linux 9.04.
Unfortunately, there is no powerpc Linux write of Skype but I'll need to get SIP setup. I think I'll need to use Ekiga I my mac friends who will want to talk with me will need xmeeting.
That said my 3D desktop is not working thanks to digression of the video driver for my old machine. Ah well, such is life with technology.
