There was a line going out the Apple Store today. The line wasn't that long but they were waiting on something. Anyone know something I don't?

Well, it is probably different in the various states that do it. It was in NC this past weekend and thats where the OP is from.
I also noticed a line at the Durham, NC Apple store. They were even giving people umbrellas to help shade from the sun.
OP was in Greensboro, NC, and tax free weekend was definitely in NC this past weekend, Aug. 5, 6, and 7. I bought my new MBP a little over a month ago, couldn't wait. Oh, well! Tax free weekend never comes at a convenient time for me, either when I need things or when I get my financial aid refund. I did buy a pair of $10 shorts so I might have saved $0.70. Whooptyfreakindooo!
I believe the tax free weekend was this weekend in England, due to all the riots and all...
It looked more like a five fingered discount going on over there!
Its actually sate by state, since our sales taxes are levied at the sate and local level. So, at some point a few years ago some state government decided that, to stimulate shopping and help people save money as they had to buy a crapload of stuff for the back to school season that they would forgive sales tax for a weekend or three days. Other states followed. I'm not sure how many do it now.
Since computers are included in many states and Apple hardly ever puts things on sale, it tends to be a big weekend for them., even though the tax is not that high (5-8% in most states)
