i am interested in trying out Linux, and was wondering if it
is a good idea to try to install Linux on my MacBook Pro, and if so,
which version ? Ubuntu ? cheers, FF

You should be able to do it no problem. Just use BootCamp, and make yourself a partition.
While I haven't tried Ubuntu, I've had good experiences with Mandriva and Red Hat.

But how do you get about installing it. When ever i try to insall Ubuntu it comes to the grub install and then fails.

OK, it's really easy to try Linux.

Go to Ubuntu's Web site and download the live CD. This will allow you to run Linux without installing it. You'll get a chance to see how it works with your hardware and if you want to try installing it.

Then, you can just click the install icon if you wish to install it to your hard drive.

While Ubuntu is nice, I prefer SUSE and Fedora Linux.

I have the live CD and i have booted into Ubuntu. However, when i start the installer, and the actual installation starts, and when it comes to the part where it installs Grub, it fails, and i am left without Linux installed.
