I'm looking at upgrading to Lion, but don't know if CS4 will work with it. I asked the same question a while back in the Lion section of the forums, but my guess is that not everyone there uses the Adobe software, so I'm hoping to get some kind of an answer from the Design section on whether (and how well) CS4 Design Premium works with Lion.

The major apps in CS4 should work fine.

There's a site to check if other users have tested the apps. I'll see if I can find it for you.

The major problem with older apps is if they were written in PowerPC code, and CS4 apps were not.

That site relies on users to submit information, just like this thread. So far not much info has been posted. :(

From what I've read on Adobe's site, droplets don't work in Photoshop CS4, and there's some issues with color picker in DreamWeaver.

I guess I'm gonna be a guinea pig and test things out myself once Lion is done downloading.

CS3 Works just fine, so I would venture a guess that CS4 will as well.

It's hard to get a straight answer on MacRumors because most people who are jumping on Lion aren't the typical user who gets work done on their computer. They are usually the fanboys who think a computer is for playing with the operating system.

Although I'm not too happy about the iOS like features of Lion, I'm sort of curious about Lion just to see if it is more optimized than Snow Leopard. But I'm usually knee deep in actual work that I can't bother or risk doing the upgrade.

If you do work on your computer, I can't see upgrading right away.

Clients don't want to hear a deadline may be missed because you're having computer problems.

With a major OS upgrade, any number of problems could occur, any one of which could really screw up the works.

The best bet - let others try first. Give it time for any possible problems to be patched or workarounds found.

I did install Lion on an older home computer (2010 mini with CS4 on it) and things seem to work well, so far.

True, if you are doing some paying work on your computer, don't update, chances are that CS suite will work but other things won't (font problems, email problems) and you are going to have a bad time! I rather finish all the work I have to do than pay with Lion.. :D

I know that Adobe CS4 has supposedly been confirmed as working, but I'm having problems with InDesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4 crashing when printing. I don't even get to the print dialog box. When I select "Print" I get the dreaded spinning rainbow ball, then after a few moments, the program crashes. Photoshop CS4, Photoshop Elements 8 and Acrobat Pro 9 print fine. I did update to Java For Mac OS X 10.7 after installing Lion as suggested in Adobe's documentation on known issues with Lion.

    Any ideas, anyone?

    Thanks!

I tried to print out of InDesign and Illustrator CS4 on my home computer that has been upgraded to Lion.

I had no problems printing a number of documents.

As a workaround for your problem, can you export to PDF files and then print out of Acrobat?

I know it's not ideal if you're used to printing direct out of InDesign, but at least you can get prints out until you get your problem fixed.

Totally agree THX1139 I thought it was just me who was of that opinion!:)

I'm a professional graphic designer who uses CS all day, every day and I'm about to install Lion on one of my iMacs. I've completed the latest round of projects so I'm going to take the plunge and see what happens. I've both CS4 and CS5 installed so I'll try them out over the next few days and see how they perform. Luckily I have another iMac running SL so not too much of a panic if any problems occur!

From what I have heard other designers say, CS4 has been working fine. However, if you rely on 3rd party plug-ins like suitcase fusion for font activation, they may not work.

That's good to know. I've been thinking of upgrading to Lion and the one thing holding be back has been the Adobe CS4. I don't use any third party plug-ins. :D

Wanted to update everyone here on my earlier post. For anyone still having problems printing from Adobe CS3 or CS4 products (InDesign/Illustrator crashing after selecting "Print," but before print dialogue box appears), AIsolve over on the Adobe forums has posted a fix at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3820913#3820913 . Thanks, AIsolve!

I can't upgrade yet because Maya is the only app of mine (according to research) that doesn't work with Lion. I use CS5 not CS4 but supposedly CS5 works fine if you ever planned on upgrading.

    OS X Lion and CS4

CS4 Photoshop, CS4 Flash, and CS4 Illustrator are not supported by Adobe for Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). After two days of working with their support people I finally got to someone who informed me that CS4 would no longer be supported by Adobe.
