Lion clock not syncing to time server

I've noticed the clock on my new Macbook Air does not seem to sync automatically to the Apple time server though "Set date and time automatically" is checked. If I go to Date and Time preferences and change the time server the clock syncs immediately. In a few days the clock accumulates a few seconds of error and I repeat the process. Anyone else observed this and is there a fix?
