I have 2 TB hard drive with a lot of data on an old imac. It has Leopard 10.5.8 version on it. Can I still boot from this drive using the new imac or macbook pro? Would I be able to install regular leopard on a new machines?

Unlikely, as Leopard does not include drivers for current 2011 machines.
If it would have 10.6.8 you could use it for all 2011 Macs except the MBA.

Generally the lowest version of OSX you can install is the one that came with the Mac. Some people have posted varying levels of success with some Macs that came with Lion and downgraded to Snow Leopard, however depending on the model, if it does install you may be faced with system instabilities. That is, Leopard does not have the kexts needed for newer Macs like MBA or MBPs
