hi,

after loading Lion i can no longer load or the dvd is no longer working. It wont load any media

any suggestions ?

I highly doubt it's Lion itself. Probably coincidence. For example, if you can't boot from a Snow Leopard install disk, it's definitely not Lion's fault.

is this some hardware failure that just happen to die after the update?

I cant even insert the bootable dvd coz it wont even respond at all... It is visible in the sys profile though.

Yes, probably coincidence. Optical drives die every day. You just happen to be the guy who noticed it on the day he installed Lion.

Again, to verify it's not software, Lion can't be running. Boot the machine and hold down the option key. If it still spits out the disk while at the menu, suspect the drive.

Lion - DVD drive issues

I had a DVD drive recognition problem pre Lion.

Go to Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD (yes the hard drive) and First Aid

Run Repair Disk Permissions.

That brought back the DVD/CD drive.

It worked for me. Worth a try.
