I would say it is pretty stable as well. Other than Adobe Flash crashing in Safari I have seen no real bugs.

Apple has done a fine job of tweaking the memory usage since DP 4.

I have a ton of apps open running full screen on my poor little MacBook Air and it is running just fine. Very fast and responsive.

Right now with 9 apps open...

How much RAM do you have on your MAcBook Air ?

My Memory page for SL looks very similar with 6 apps open and I have 2gig, wondering if I am going to struggle

I love Lion..

It has brought my 2008 iMac 2.4 dual core back to life...It's so FAST!!!

Not one issue.

No, it doesn't. It doesn't use your wifi network. It only shows up if you have hardware that supports it.

Interesting, the only way I can get it to appear is to boot the other test computers I have running Lion. There is no option for Air Drop when they are booted into Snow Leopard. I thought it was a Lion thing, it would be nice if it worked with Snow Leopard.

2GB it seems to run just fine.

I have the following apps open just to see how it would do...

  • Reeder
  • Twitter
  • Mail
  • Safari
  • iCal
  • iPhoto
  • Activity Monitor
  • 1Password

Mostly the normal stuff I use on my laptop.

Been using lion daily since dp3. Now on GM. I'm loving it, speed is great on my late '08 mbp.

Many thanks, I am slowly getting ready to think about buying Lion

I'm just wondering if those of you that say Lion is faster are only seeing the benefits of a fresh install of the OS. In other words... if you do a clean install of your existing SL you'll see a speed bump with that as well.

Just wondering. Not using Lion yet.

i love lion, as soon as 1password is fixed and sabconnect for safari ill be using safari over chrome. the OS runs smooth, everything is very snappy. ive gotten a few beachballs but nothing super major. LOVE the new finder, LOVE the 2 finger swipe in safari. itunes seems slightly quicker. launchpad is cool. its a great update. makes me love mac even more

1Password is updated and works fine now. There are instructions on installing the new extension on Agilebits site.

I can swipe between photos in iPhoto just like on SL. Go to Trackpad in System Preferences, More Gestures tab, and change "Swipe Between Pages" to Swipe with Two or Three fingers. This will also allow you to swipe back/forward in the Finder and other apps again with a three finger swipe. I think Swipe Between Full Screen Apps will automatically change to a four finger swipe when you do this. If not, change it manually.

Thanks! Appreciate it :)

Agreed. I know it's a small thing but I love the fact that gifs run smoothly in Safari now.

1password STILL has errors/bugs its in the forums. and i need sabconnect++ updated for safari before i can switch over.

Yeah, same imac here. Its at least as fast as SL was. Its snappy even now, while transferring 500+ gigs to my external newly encrypted(filevault2) drive.
Also my internal is already encrypted...im also planning to encrypt my time machine too, hehhe better safe than sorry

not cool to forget my password

Any developers here? Thinking of updating but afraid it might screw up any XCode stuff. Any issues I should be aware of?

The "smart bar" has been a feature that you can turn on or off since SL. Also, search in the url bar is really ****ing annoying.

The smart bar only searches history and bookmarks. I want to just open a new tab, type my search query in the URL bar, and have it go to my default search engine.

Firefox has done this forever and if you use Google as your search engine, Chrome excels at it.

I can't stand how whatever you type into those dedicated search boxes, just stays there unless you hit the x to delete.

Of course, if you don't like this functionality, then I can understand you liking the other browsers.

i just love what chrome has done in this area. when i type in something in the address bar i just want it to work (tm). wether it is a url, search query part of an URL a local website in our network.

safari always 404's on this but chrome either autocomletes to an URL in you history, your bookmarks, does a search query and with instant enabled it also preloads the most logical website for you so there is zilch waiting time.

on my mac i do try to use safari (the sliding pages are nice) but every time i type something in the address bar it gives me a 404 and i remember why i switched to chrome. plus it uses a much more recent webkit enginge.

they should reall work on their archaic use of the address bar, and personally i find the tabs on tob (like chrome, opera and firefox use) much more intuitive then tabs below the address bar.

Safari still needs to be augmented with Glims to be worth a damn. I must admit that the way downloads work now is just great though. Much less obstrusive than the bar in Chrome. Overall it seems faster than the previous version but still a bit lacking in the features department.

Otherwise I can't say I'm hugely impressed. Lion has some nice little things here and there like the lack of scroll bars until needed, better window resizing, Mail is a lot better, Mission Control is a bit better Expose...

Launchpad is a joke though. It keeps arranging new apps on another page even though there is plenty of space on the first one. On my massive 30" display it is also a huge space waster. I wish it had configurable options like being able to limit it to a percentage of the screen.

It also really sucks that Mac App Store downloads launch launchpad, annoyingly disrupting browsing the store. But hey, what else can you expect from what is apparently iTunes developers.

Finder is still crap compared to Path Finder.

Totally worth the 30 euros but overall I really wish they had more user interface improvements in each version.

Nope, Safari still does NOT have Smart Search à la Chrome. Dunno what others are talking about.

And it shouldn't get it, either. Address bars are for addresses. Not for other random crap because the user is too stupid to figure out what a search field is for.

Thanks for calling me stupid. I don't need a separate field just for searching. So in safari you search for history/bookmarks in field and search the Internet in another field.....pretty inefficient to me.

-Kevin

PS this is just my opinion, you can do what you want, and I won't even resort to name calling.

Yeah, and a phone is just for calling. Use a computer if you want to send/check emails and browse the internet, among other things.

I agree address bars are for addresses. Only in this case, we're talking about a "Universal Bar" or a "Smart Bar", not an address bar.

By the way, it's not about user stupidity. It's all about efficiency and workflow. Smart Bar saves you at least one keyboard/mouse click + several other minor advantages.

It's pretty awesome, fast, and seemingly better battery life on my macbook air vs SL.

I'd been running the developer previews on the Air and the battery life wasn't as good but in the GM it's outstanding, might have helped that I did a clean install with the GM as it feels snappier than DP4.

Also just clean installed the GM on my Mac Pro and it feels nice and snappy as well. So far I have not noticed any bugs or issues with the GM on my macs.

615GB.

I always start fresh with my backups once I'm happy with the set up.

This may take some time....

ah yah I just bought a new iMac so not gonna bother with a clean install this time, but I have deff been in yer situation before.

One thing I just remembered is that Lion should've had an uninstaller, I know theres third-party applications for that, but I think a native one would've been great.. Dragging to the trash doesn't delete all files..
