It appears (at least for me) that the Lion up-to-date site is not working. It says my serial number is not found (even though the same number works to check my warranty status). This is for an iMac purchased on June 8 '11. I just got off the phone with Apple support and they said they were aware of the problem and that my serial number was good.

Just thought i'd pass it along if anyone else was trying and having issues. I'll probably wait until the first patch is released anyway but have to download it anyway to get it free.

It's failing for me as well with the serial number of the June 16 iMac.
 
June 16 purchase of MBP just worked for me. Not sure why you have problems. Make sure your serial number matches with that on the receipt.

Yep, same here.

iMac purchased June 13th, App Store link says sn# not recognized and online form says not eligible. Apple support says I am eligible.

Consider yourself lucky. It's apparently a very widespread problem, myself included. June 16th MBP no-go right now. Hopefully they fix the server issues soon...

This says that online purchases are the ones affected... for those who have gotten it to work, did any of you purchase online?

I purchased my MBP online on 6/24 and also get the serial number error when trying to redeem the up-to-date offer. Hopefully there's a fix soon!

Try using the "Qualifying purchases on or after July 21, 2011" Link. This worked for me even though I purchased on the 13th.
 
It's still not working for me so I just sent in my proof of purchase to Apple and waiting to receive my app code.:(
 
It worked for me on my MBP at about 8 am pacific time this morning. I wonder if the database was up and then went down leading to the problems?
 
Mine Finally worked this afternoon via the normal link. Looks like it still may be intermittent though.
 
I am having no luck with my S/N either. I just bought my MBP last week. I tried both links with no success. I hate that there is not a way to check on the server status on the website or something. I called Apple Care twice and they said "keep trying."

I purchased mine in the store. So did my wife whose computer also did not have any problems with the up-to-date program. Oh well.
