Windows Vista in 2025…

The glass effects are ridiculous eye candy. But i like what they did to Terminal in regards to readability
I disagree. I’ve never been a fan of the dark icons, but the subtle changes made this year have completely changed my mind.

I’m also a fan of many of the new animations. The buttons at the top left of the Messages list and a conversation transition into one another in a fun and, in my opinion, impressively smooth animation.

I see a lot of complaints about the content behind buttons affecting legibility and I have seen some instances of this but with my wallpaper/dark mode setup it all looks great.

To each their own, of course.

It would look better with parallax perspective that also effects the lighting on the edges. Perhaps when they upgrade the processors.

I do not like the archaic skeuomorphic icons.

I think overall it looks nice. However there are some places where it’s a little too much glass. PiP video player comes to mind. Still needs some refinement and of course bug fixes. Overall though, I like it. It could be worse. I didn’t do beta 1, so I have no idea how much more clear the original concept was.

What would be awesome is if there were Apple themes. As in you have three interfaces to choose from. iOS 1, 7, or current. Devs have to make a skeuomorphic app icon as well.

It’s different and obviously Apple has been tweaking it with each developer beta so they’re not done yet, but I don’t find it to be some radical change like some others do.

Different? Yep! But iOS 7 style different? I’d argue hell no! Going from the Forstall backed skeuomorphic design to the modern stylized Ive inspired design was much more of a radical change than this.

It was time for some kind of change and IMHO this works for me. It’s different enough that I like it but not so radically different that I feel lost or like it hurts my productivity. It doesn’t. It’s just different and when change comes, there are always champions who cheer it, people who are indifferent without strong feelings one way or the other and those who loathe it. That was the case with the jump from iOS 6 and below to iOS 7 and above and in the end people accepted it and moved on. Even the loudest haters. I’m sure some jumped to Android, but it’s obvious by the sales numbers that more liked it than disliked it. That’ll be the case here.

I like it but I’m not falling all over myself praising it. It was time for a change, we got one. I like it but don’t love it and that’s basically been the case since the first beta. I certainly like it more on the current developer beta. I’m a “less is more” kind of person in general but I don’t want them to go back to something that had become a stale either so I’ll take it.

Windows Vista's Aero was a rip off of Apple's Aqua. Sure wish people would quit referring to this as Vista. Apple started it in 2001, Microsoft copied it.
Ever since the "ridiculous eye candy" went away, I found myself less and less interested in using computers. Windows 8-10 is absolutely terrible to look at. Windows 98 looks better at least its got some depth and customization options. The same goes for Yosemite\iOS 7+. Dark mode was a bandaid. I'm all about liquid glass. It's long overdue to get rid of this characterless flat software design trend that I've been cursed at staring at the last like 12 years.

I think liquid glass is starting to look polished in B5. I've been using LG since B1 - I'm not going back. My missus's iPhone's running 18.5 and looks decidedly ancient in comparison.
Agreed. I’d still prefer a bit more glass with light/white backgrounds, as I find the opaqueness inconsistent with the more glassy look on dark backgrounds.

After running all the Dev Betas on my iPhone 14 with the cracked screen, I installed it on my iPhone 11, which works really well. Now I've install macOS 26 on my MacBook Pro, and I'm loving it there too.
