You've hit the nail on the head right there. I can't fathom why anyone gives a damn if the iPhone has 'liquid metal' in it or not. Except to say:
People care about its properties. Not about some silly name. But you felt the need to play the Apple users are stupid card again. Cool. Glad you got it of your chest for today.

Yep, that's what I said: it needs a breakthrough in cost.
Yep, that's what you said, but it's not what I said. And it's not what it needs. You make it sound like it costs a fortune to make a cellphone frame out of the stuff, while the difference with a cnc'ed aluminum frame is probably a couple of dollars in reality.

Don't over estimate 'people'. And for the record, I don't consider anyone 'stupid' except blind followers of anything. Apple included.

I think Sedrick's (and my) point was that the choice of name seems to have far more impact on people than the actual properties do. That's easy to see just from the constant use of Terminator pics :)

Ask people why and where (and where not) LiquidMetal is desirable to use, and few could answer correctly. That's why we keep seeing posts asking "Why aren't they using LiquidMetal for the entire body?" and so forth.

Okay, so what do you think it needs for Apple to use it?

You just said:

"The way I see it, the only drawback is increased cost over aluminium. "

I totally agree with the name gimmick. The thing is, they called it Liquid Metal for a good reason. But now it's becoming a have to have "feature" because people are all like "ZOMGZ SKIE9eT" and in truth they have no idea what liquid metal is really about.

When Apple does it, most people won't even notice. And that's kind of the point.
