Slight change of plans for me! I'm not ordering till tomorrow and canceling my order I made this morning!

Why, you ask?

Apple Employee Family & Friends Discount.

That's right. I have a friend willing to order me one with their 15% discount. It's gonna save me $300 USD and THAT is worth one day's wait!

However, it'll still be:

15" matte, 2.5GHz, 200GB 7200, 2GB RAM

Final price with discount and tax: $2367.07 USD.

Yeah...it seems I can't purchase the maxed out 17" MBP under the education area (keep getting the "Oops! There was an error with your session"). The other models I am able to 'add to cart' though...I'll keep checking it.

Have you tried calling to see if you can order over the phone?

I would STRONGLY hold off on canceling until you can guarantee that discount. Trust me. I know that the Apple employee Friends & Family discounts apply to all the computers, BUT new versions of the computers (like our MBP update this morning) usually do NOT show up as available with that discount for about a month after they are released. I've dealt with it in the past and its most likely going to be an issue of if waiting another month is worth the money saved. Check with your friend before you cancel the order...

So what type screen did everyone go for the glossy or matte?

I decided to go for the matte. I'm fine the matte on my iBook now and don't really care if the colors are a little richer on glossy.

ordered

Singapore store up at 2342, ordered by 2350. 15", 2.6, lotsa memory, matt

Oh, yes. I know. I haven't canceled it, yet. I'm going by the Apple Store tomorrow and will have her go back to the back to check and see if it'll work. If it does, I'll cancel the order right there in the store, and then give her my info. If it doesn't work, then I'll keep it on order and just deal with the $200 more.

First Mac Ever

Just placed the order:

2.5 GHz 15.4"
2GB Ram (4 gigs on the way from Newegg)
Matte Screen
250gb HD
Apple Remote
AppleCare
500Gb Time Capsule

Ships Feb 28 - Mar 3
Delivered Mar 3 - Mar 7

Unfortunately I'll be out of the country when it arrives, but I'm having it sent to my girlfriend. I wonder when Time Capsule ships?
Also because I ordered the Apple Remote my computer is considered "Custom Configured." Is this going to prevent me from being able to return it? That would be ridiculous.

Just ordered the $2499 MBP and saved an additonal $200 using my EPP discount. Arrival date between the Feb 29th and March 4th.

I called a few of the Apple stores on the east coast and none of the stores expected to have any in stock for a couple of days.

here's my order:

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Part Number: Z0EY
Country Kit 065-7241
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 065-7730
Apple Remote 065-7478
SuperDrive 8X (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW) 065-7453
200GB Serial ATA @ 7200 rpm 065-7465
Keyboard & Mac OS 065-7459
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB 065-7443
MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display 065-7448

part number Z0EY, is that what everyone else is getting? I didn't have the option to choose VGA or DVI for the miniDVI cable tho?? hmm...

After ordering I realized I had forgotten to add the BT mouse to my order (has to be purchased with the computer for my ADC discount) and called to add it. So yeah.. I caved and upgraded from the base 15" to the 2.5 model hehe. Oops :)

Have you tried calling to see if you can order over the phone?

I just called and there are some people getting the same "Oops!" error when purchasing under the education area. The Apple agent even tried to process the order through her computer, but kept getting the same error. They said their techs are trying to fix the problem and that I should call back later. Looks like I'll have to wait a little bit longer. :p

Yeah -- uncanny! I scare myself sometimes that way  Starting to think I may actually be some kind of a telepathic medium :D

Haha! Or possibly one who was thinking we were actually gunna have a media event today... Its not like that is something Apple would ACTUALLY do now is it?? Silly me for expecting we actually might hear something about an SDK in February... Anyway, let's keep this thread alive!!! I know you are on these forums alot!

I'll be looking for your posts in a while when its time for a new one, until then I can't wait for mine to ship. I feel bad for those guys that bailed last week.

mine says:

Estimated Shipping: 07 Mar, 2008
Estimated Delivery: 18 Mar, 2008 - 19 Mar, 2008

thats agesssss!!!

My very first Mac! Now I can stop bothering my friends and spend some time AWAY from the computer lab! I'm freaking out!!

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy WS
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
200GB Serial ATA @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8x DL
Apple Remote
BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
Country Kit

What's the country kit? Mine is also the "ZOEY" part number. Hmmm.

Expected to ship Feb 29 - Mar 5. I would die if it came by this Friday.

Also upgrading my RAM to 4gb via the awesomeness of NewEgg. I ordered the Kingston Ram instead, since it had better feedback, and I've had luck using that brand in the various PC's that I've built. Here is the link.

I also ordered the Case Logic Black 15.4" Student Laptop Shuttle. It's basically a neoprene, weather resistant pouch that will protect my MBP when it's in my backpack. It was only $17 too!

I'm also thinking about ordering the iLap and SCEPTRE X24WG-1080P Black 24" 2ms DVI Widescreen LCD. Does anyone here own either one of these products that could vouch for their quality?

And finally, does anyone know if the HD is easier to replace on the MBP now? I doubt it, since it seems as though they didn't do any redesigns. Just wondering because around this time next year I will probably upgrade it to either 128gb or 256gb SSD, depending on prices.
