I think Apple missed out in their Keynote with one of their commercials. It should have gone like this:

A mother with an infant holding or feeding her baby. Her phone rings and she has to fumble through her purse/bag while stopping to feed the baby while awkwardly holding the infant trying to find the phone.

Or...

Another mother simply answers the call on her watch while still holding and feeding her infant.

And..

The same thing in a car scene with a woman fumbling through her purse trying to find her phone while driving. You can figure out the rest.

Convenience...same reason why people drink terrible coffee out of Kurigs, pay $40/lb for horrible, stale coffee and dump unrecyclable waste pods into landfills.

Remember a phone is for your convenience. If it's not convenient to answer the phone; don't.

.....

I have this today but with some extra functions that the watch can provide i.e. Heart Rate and real Calorie burn it will benefit. I hate wearing a heart rate strap

I don't believe the AW will provide anything more relevant than a good fitness app on the iPhone. When I use my Surge for cycling, it calculates calories burned based on readings from the motion sensors, distance traveled and speed according to the GPS, and elevation based on the altimeter. An iPhone app will do the same.

good list.

I will add the ability to archive/delete emails. Most emails I receive I just need to read and delete/archive. This is a feature I really liked with android wear. Lets just hope it actually removes the damn notification from your phone!

I hate the fact if I delete an email on my ipad the notification badge stays on the iphone until I open the mail app. This is only with the stock mail app. Gmail does it right. If I get a gmail email that I respond to it on my computer the badge icon goes away on my iphone.

Omg yes!!! I would love to quickly delete and archive incoming mails right when I get them! Especially if they're spam, receipts, etc.

Also yeah I get that problem too with notifications... They used to sync up, now Apple dun goofed it.

Interesting that no one mentioned remote camera.

Say goodbye to the Selfie stick. Just prop your iPhone up somewhere, use your watch as the view finder and set a 3 second timer once you have all subjects in the frame and voila!

I know it sounds odd, but the killer feature for me was the "get up and move around" notification.

It's better than just a hourly reminder because it knows if you actually moved or not... much better than just a static reminder which is easy to just ignore.

This is the problem with the Apple watch. You try and justify its uses for you as plain and simple, you just want one. It's the shiny design that gets you interested, the functions of it are secondary and so you try and see how you can apply its functions to your life after your decision to buy it.

If your decision was purely based on function and could list uses that are actually important to you life (you listed none, only some nice to haves), you would probably by a different device/watch.

I bought a Garmin Fenix last year as I need a GPS watch for training. It also needed to be water proof and be able to sync with my phone. It comes with iphone notifications but that's not something I use. I bought a Tissot stainless steel watch not long before that which tells the time. It's a classy looking watch though and that's why I bought it. The reasons for buying either of those are very different. But, the reason for buying the Apple watch (for anyone) is more like my Tissot purchase than my Garmin.

People have become obsessed with gadgets. But what's worse is that they've also become obsessed with customisable gadgets. Being able to swap the classy strap on an Apple Watch with another classy strap suckers people in. Save your money. You'll quite likely to get buyers remorse after buying the Apple watch.

No, I'm getting it because the watch and the OS looks beautiful. Also I have listed some that are important to me. I also like being a part of Apple's ecosystem. Telling me to look for a different watch is pointless when the fact of the matter is, most smartwatches are android! Pebble is ****. Including the new coloured Pebble is ****. lol

Most of those can be easily handled by the phone. Yes, you need to pull it out and use it, but then if you ever looked at people waiting for a train or bus. They're doing that anyways. In fact I'd say the natural position is to have the phone in hand. The majority of tasks the watch can do, the phone does as well.

Yeah well, in two years from now, those people waiting for a bus or train are gonna be on their wrist, instead of using their phones. Especially during the winter.

Some of the items in the list seem like mental gymnastics to try to justify the desire for the watch. For instance
Taking the phone out awkward for shazam - that makes zero sense. I find I can easily take my phone out and find out what's playing. When has it suddenly become difficult to grab your phone for a task?

If I was a rave or a bar, I would have to go to Siri and say, "What's this song playing?" which wouldn't really work due to all the noise. OR, I could get the app. But that's as tedious as using Siri. I would have to swipe to unlock or use my print, then scroll through pages, press the folder, find the app, then boom. (minus all the animations you have to go through)

The watch being a motivation factor for working out - it wil help yes, but if you don't currently want to work out, the watch isn't going to help you. If you are already motivated, then the watch isn't going to help you since you already are motivated. Its great at improving your workouts, by allowing you better track your exercise and setting higher and harder goals.

Reading texts while working out. Do you realize how hard that will be. If you try doing this while running, you could get hit by a car if you were outside, or fall off the treadmill inside.

It's pretty damn easy? I had a pebble watch back then, and that watch had a **** display and it was easy for me to see important incoming texts? It's not hard to see it while running, or while during a break between sets.

I don't mean to preach - but seriously - don't answer your phone while you're driving. Watch or phone - you're putting lives in danger.

Get off your high horse there man. Everybody does it. thank god theres even a watch to help reduce the distraction.

Interesting so many people justify purchasing the AW because they won't have to take their iPhone out of their pocket.

During the height of the "Bend Gate" debate, defenders of the iPhone 6 & 6+ where saying the phones are bending because people are foolishly keeping their phones in their pockets, especially their back pocket. So when people posted pics of their bent phone they were attacked for purposely carrying their phone in a location (pocket) that puts the phone under too much twisting force; claiming the phone was not designed to take that much stress.

Yeah well those people who bend their phones were probably fat and heavy as ****. My iPhone has never bent, and if bend gate was real, I wouldn't be stupid enough to put it in my back pocket. Which I don't anyways.

Agreed also Cars have supported bluetooth for many years now. When i am in my car i answer on the steering wheel and use hands free through the radio.

And then use find my iphone to find the person that walked off with the phone.

THIS! I agree with you exactly. I want to live the convenient life and I have the money to purchase it. It's gonna help me live a better day.

Mine is too. No other gadgets do that. (for iPhones)

Samsung took the idea of the apple watch commercial with there horrible first watch

The commercial looked like the first iphone commercial but with a watch

Everything other than my 1 reason is fun, but not why I would buy it.

My reason: notifications without getting out phone.

I'm a reception class teacher and can't get my phone out. I also have a young family myself and if I feel a vibration from my phone I panic something is up. With the watch I can put the phone in a draw (where it should be anyway) and easily see if there is an actual issue that needs my attention or not without stopping my teaching.

I'm very looking forward to cooking apps, like let's say Jamie Oliver's recipe app, getting support for the watch, so that it'll show you the steps right on your wrist, including timers and such, without having to place the iphone next to a sizzling pan. This will definitely be there soon and it's gonna be awesome :) Same in the supermarket, a shopping list on the wrist is gonna be much more convenient than on the phone. Plus paying at the cashier (once :apple: Pay makes it to Germany...)

Why would you Buy Apple Watch?

I think, by now, everyone would have his/her own reason to get or not get an Apple Watch. I just want to hear why.

As for myself, I'm interested in fitness tracking feature. I'm just hoping there are people out there, like myself, who are looking into medical monitor feature on a smart watch. I've been wearing numerous bands/watch/monitor etc. because to my medical condition, (I need a device that basically can keep an eye on me) and I never really liked one. That's why I'm gonna give it a shot.

I suppose there could be a couple of different reasons too. One of my old friends said taptic engine would be a real innovation, if he can feel it in the construction site. I've seen several other people mentioning not need to take out a phone in a business meeting, and etc.

So what is your reason? And if you're not getting one, what was the deal breaker?

I probably will buy one, but not for a logical reason.
1. I like watches.
2. It's from Apple and I can't resist.
3. The Micky Mouse watch pushed me over the edge.

I want to say it's the fitness tracking, and that's definitly important, also not being permanently chained to my phone will be nice. But if I'm completely honest, I just want a new toy. A new iPhone would just replace my present one, the same is true of a new iPad or Mac. But this is brand new and so more exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing if it changes my life as much as my other apple products have.

There's obviously dozens of capabilities but the main thing for me is notifications outside of my pocket. I can't tell you how many calls and other notifications I somehow miss when my 6 Plus is in my pocket. Having the watch tap me on the wrist will essentially eliminate this problem.

The other reason I'm buying it is for the fun that a new Apple product brings. As was said about the iPhone, we won't entirely know what we need the watch for until developers show us.

The main driving force behind the Apple watch for me is convenience. Just like a tablet is more convenient than a PC/Laptop when performing certain actions the watch is more convenient than the phone in doing the same.

Why? Because I have to, it's my duty to buy all new Apple products, obviously I'm in a cult:eek:

I teach as well and I've been using a Martian Notifier for much the same reason: if I get a call, text, or email, I want to be able to see what it is immediately without pulling out my phone. Very convenient. And I'm very excited about the infinitely more useful Apple Watch.

.

Thank god you don't work in marketing.

The first example, feeding a baby.

1. A phone call in this situation is inconvenient, through either a phone or watch. Sure a watch is hands free, but are you really going to be on loud speaker on your watch while feeding your baby? Is that the image Apple want? A distracted mother?

2. Apple want to promote how the watch doesn't get in the way of real world relationships. The watch should allow you to feed your baby undistracted.

3. The mother shouldn't answer that call... from any device in that situation in an advert. The call should be rejected from the watch.

The second example, driving in a car.

I don't even know where to start.

That advert should end with the woman being pulled over and arrested for being a moron.

If apple's ads are so great why do you think it's being ripped apart by just about every media outlet I've seen as unnecessary. Why troll a guy for bringing up real world scenarios, marketable or not, they happen.
