Go to your Applications folder and look at the "Get Info" for apps that haven't been updated for Retina. Make sure "Open in Low Resolution" is not checked. Some apps, such as Pages, look much better when OS X tries to open them at 2x resolution (text and images, for instance). This isn't a fix, it just helps a little.

What to do if i can't uncheck it?

Editing my post to create a list of Retina-ready apps or announcements of readiness intent. Will try to update occasionally with what's happening in this thread.

As of June 20, 2012:

Updated, partially updated, or in nightly build

Coda 2
Transmit
Twitterific
VLC (in nightly build)
Google Chrome (in nightly build and dev channel)
Transmission (in nightly build)
Cyberduck (in nightly)
Adium (partially updated?)
Echofon (partially updated?)

Intentions of update announced or confirmed

Adobe Photoshop CS6 (near future intentions announced; rest of CS6 suite has not received similar announcements)
Omni Group suite (near future intentions confirmed)
Boxer (near future intentions confirmed)

Thanks for the list, i am hoping to see more apps in the next few weeks, as everyone is saying 'once you go retina, you can't go back', hell, even my Thunderbolt display doesn't look so hot now....

Eclipse seems to partially support retina with a workaround. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=382972

Wow! Same is true with Intellij! See http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-87500

And apparently, Java 6 apps should just have it.. so Java is Retina Ready: See http://lists.apple.com/archives/java-dev/2012/Jun/msg00069.html

Reeder is said to have submitted a retina version to mac app store.. should be out this week!!!

Is FileMaker Pro 12 ready for retina display in RMBP? My understanding is that it's good with retina display in iPad and iPhone.

Answer: No.

I agree would be great for this to be made a sticky.

Does anyone know if Xcode has been updated for retina displays?

Xcode is mostly retina-ready. The text and most of the icons are high-res, but the little status screen at the top in the middle is blurry (ignore the failed build :p)

Guys, be sure to let the developers know which area are not retina *optimized*.

Many developers do not yet have retina displays, so they're just guessing at the moment where the retina display would work and not work. I think there's a tool that they can use but it may not be stable.

Reeder with Retina support update has been submitted to Apple for approval.

We also know that Tweetbot for Mac will arrive with Retina support as the devs released the first screenshot on a Retina display.

Not an app, but I noticed on my retina iPad that the MR masthead looks optimized for rMBP (ie it has sharpness to spare even in landscape orientation). Arn is pretty on the ball!

Sadly, hasn't been updated yet. I'm looking forward to an update on this one too.

Although it looks pretty good, I guess it mainly uses native OSX rendering. Text looks sharp, menus look good. Just some of the little icons are a little blurry.

Not all unoptimized apps look equally awful.

haha yep...my ACD is now ruined for me!!

Developers already were given tools to enable Retina on any display since Lion. No guess work is required. Exact same thing as the RMBP, just unlocked for any display. Makes things look giant, but it's the same thing. :)

I was under the impression retina support was not finalized under lion? Where the tools complete?
