I am not sure I get the appeal of this app. If you are this interested in network security, you'll probably already have a robust firewall for your entire network and this would be mostly redundant.

Most people don't understand what a firewall is, let alone how to configure a "robust" one.

Little Snitch gives you an application level firewall that a regular, non-technical user can understand.

As such, it may be pointless for someone with your technical expertise, but it's great for regular folks like me.

That’s just gross entitlement and having zero clue how costly and time-consuming it is to continually improve software—especially within Apple’s ecosystem that constantly deprecates and changes things (usually for the better).
That doesn't give them the right to exploit people. Letting private people pay per device is imho the problem of these companies. I do understand if they charge companies per device, but why should I pay only because I have a few Macs more? Then I rather stick to pirated software, until these companies change their mind.

"A single license is valid for all your machines as long as you are the only user."

i don’t know that you’re on the moral high ground that you seem to think you’re on. And you’re possibly contributing to the problem. Perhaps your behavior is the reason why some software requires a constant internet connection to function.

And if you believe what you say, then (a) you’re mad at the wrong company, and probably (b) not reading what others have said to you.

There are devices for non technical people like us, such as the Firewalla. Some of them are small enough to travel in your laptop bag so you can use it on the road as well. It will cover your entire home network with a similar level of protection with an easy app that is essentially plug and play.

Do you have a good resource to help us how to setup a 'robust' firewall, pls? I'm looking into options.

How exactly do you do that with LS? Or is this a feature of the new version?
I know how to block as those links as they appear, I just haven’t been able to figure out how block all communications from certain countries just based on the country of origin before the link is opened.
I do it manually. You can click on a country and then it shows all connections which you can block. But there are lists which you can use: https://github.com/nathanbrock/littlesnitch-country-blocklists

How does it work as an adblocker?
I'm using Nord VPN's Threat Protection (only the web variant) but I'd love to have one process less in the background.
Is little snitch alone enough to block ads?
Thank you!
You can block on domain or sub domain basis, for example everything from add.example.com. This way no scripts and no images will ever appear from this domain. If you visit a website it warns you and asks you if you want to allow this and that connection. If you read sth. with ad* in the domain, then you know you can block it. I'll admit that when you start doing this it is overwhelming and tedious, but after a few days you will most probably not have so many dialogue clicking unless you visit every day new websites.

Question for the audience:

Would you use LittleSnitch in place of LuLu, BlockBlock, and OverSight?

Never used the last two, but I tried out LuLu when it was first released as an 'alternate'. Little Snitch had just updated to 5 I think and I was trying to see if I needed to pay for it haha. LuLu works nice, but at least back then, it was not as configurable as Little Snitch was, it was more of a 'block everything' approach where Little Snitch can be fine tuned so to speak. Great for a freebie, but I paid for the LS update (and this one) to keep things nice and easy.

I decided to keep things simple with Little Snitch Mini, it does all I need and can be downloaded from the App Store.

Any other Little Snitch Mini users here?

No. I already had the full version but, I may go ahead and test it anyway.
I too have the full version but I ended up breaking things and accordingly spending time figuring out how to fix it, so I stopped using Little Snitch.

Now I actually prefer cheap monthly subscriptions, I see them simply as extended trial periods. That, and most of the time I ditch paid full versions because of jumping on the next piece of software.

It is not my job to hand feed you. It is public information, go look it up. Maybe your mom will do it for you.
Correct, your job is to remind people to use internet search engines. Now whose job is it to remind you to eat something when you’re grumpy?

I have been a little snitch user since V3. I recently upgraded my router to a unified router that does IPS and IDS screening and I can also block certain countries and ads. So has this made Little Snitch obsolete or redundant for me?

I, also, have these additional layers of 'protection'.

What I can say about LS is that I appreciate&hold an additional layer of info, and know about my connections.
