Why only sports scores through Apple TV App? Shouldn't any sports app be able to use it?

I think the answer to this is that the TV app already supports it through Siri, and it’s already system level. They did it there first because it was likely easy to plug in.

Third party app support will likely come though. I’d rather use TheScore, personally.

i wish ESPN would update the classic widget

Classic widgets are dead. This is the lifecycle of all widget systems. We’ve been through this before on Windows, Mac, and Linux. We are on the third or fourth revision of widgets on iOS, depending if you count dynamic island.

Any App can use it. FotMob has already published a soccer app in the AppStore that uses live activities for soccer scores and works with iOS 16.1 RC.

Looking forward to apps being able to utilize this.
Here are the first few apps that I know about that released an update in the App Store with support for Live Activities and as you can see it isn't only sports related:

- Liftin' Workout Tracker
- Crouton: Cooking Companion
- Tally • Quick Counter
- OneWidget - Lock Screen Widget
- FotMob - Football Live Scores
- CardPointers for Credit Cards
- Timelogger Plus
- Aviary 2
- Magica - Mileage Tracker

See also my post in the wiki topic 'iOS16 Lock Screen Widgets & Live Activities 3rd party Apps' and the TS there for a bigger list when more apps support it.

OneFootball should adopt this.
There is a good chance they will. There are other alternatives (Sports Alerts, Scorespot - TestFlight) expected soon or already in the App Store (FotMob)

Apple only allows a few sports On the tv app. I want NCAA football, NFL, NBA.

I’m pretty sure those are supported, I know NFL and college football are. But yeah the support is pretty bare bones. Can’t watch them but you can get scores. Not sure why it’s considered part of TV app though, the info seems to be coming from Siri.

"sports alerts" app has live activies active now
This is awesome! Thank you! You can follow pretty much any sport with this app. I do wish the Lock Screen Live Activities showed a little more information and the time updated live instead of like every 30 seconds or so, but at least you can track pretty much any sport. Thanks for sharing!!!
