I'm sitting here, waiting for the show to start, reflecting on all the thousands of posts these past few months regarding the next generation of phones. Tens of thousands of words from people who are determined to explain how quickly they'll leave the iPhone behind if one feature or another isn't introduced, or how fast they'll abandon Apple if they don't bury Samsung under a slew of technology, or whatever.

The technology in a single one of these phones (I have a 6s) currently exceeds that of the entire Apollo program the day the Eagle landed on the moon (or didn't, depending on who you are). I think the more that we want and demand, the sillier it gets. I started thinking more modestly. I'd be happy if the next phone simply had a flat edge on it, instead of the rounded edge introduced with the iPhone 6. Doesn't that sound stupid? Out of all the things that I could complain about, thats it. I want an edge on my phone like the one that surrounds my iMac.

Now with all the people who are showing up for this unveiling, I started wondering about what really could happen. Kevin Yeaman is apparently seated in the theater, and given the big push on environmental audio, especially with the Homepod, perhaps this means Apple is readying a big push into Atmos? We can only hope.

Or - can I dream? - perhaps this will be the show where Cook takes the cover off the Magic project, and you all can see what I've been talking about this past year. Given the amount of leaks that have distracted everyone in the recent weeks, despite Cook's stated desire that security will be elevated like nothing before, perhaps all those leaks may have been put in place to disrupt coverage of Magic, kind of like Columbus existed to obscure the Bondi iMac? Since practically no one is talking about Magic, even though its less than two years away now, I gotta wonder.

Enjoy the show, folks.

That's a pretty cool shot.
