I am assuming the ECG will be exclusive to series 4; but will the slow heart ratings be in an iOS update?

I’m just waiting for all the tech and Wall Street pundits to claim Apple isn’t innovating because the new X aesthetically looks similar to the previous one.

This man speaks truth. I wish I had this watch 22 years ago when the doctors wouldn’t even listen to a young woman reporting heart symptoms and brushed us off as needing anti depressants instead of taking real steps to diagnose us.

Hmm...they’re bringing up the president of the American Heart Association now...

True, the most standard EKG is 12 leads. You can get heart tracings with as little as three electrodes, but the most detailed quick EKG is 12 leads. I am assuming this is a 1-3 EKG reading. And there are several factors that can alter the readings. Movements, weight, breathing, being near other devices such as phones, or even putting the leads in the wrong place.

Apple Watch 4 has been cleared by the FDA. I wonder if this will be available outside the US?

EDIT: only available in the US for now.

First ECG product offered over the counter to consumers

No it is not AliveCor gained general consumer approval years ago and actively sells their products to people.

Edit: Forgot to add, they even make an Apple Watch band. I may be mistaken but I do remember browsing the Apple store a few months ago and they were selling Kardia equipment, I'm sure that's been pulled leading up to this.

Wow yes, the medical/health related tech is astounding - I've done a decent amount of work in the clinical analysis/informatics space, and the idea of wearable instrumentation like this 10 years ago would've sounded like sci-fi ...
