It will always be the older models that the price will drop. I would never hold my breath on any new products with a price reduction.

I really want a 128GB model, but can't justify spending that much on 2015 tech. I have a 64GB currently and was hoping for a spec bump :/

My 5s is still going just fine. I only got it because I want ApplePay and a headphone jack in the same device.

I guess you're not a target customer, I'll buy and enjoy, and fortunately for you, there's a ton of options available: 7, 8, XS, XR, an Android devices of several flavors, etc., etc.

iOS 12 specifically improves performance of older phones.

Apple realizes people don’t upgrade every year anymore that explains the higher prices and expanded product line.

It’s really not very hard to improve in the performance, or lack of, of ios 11..
