I'm a native English speaker, and I still have trouble. English is one totally messed up language.

To be fair (and pedantic), it's an English spelling of an Amerindian word. Generally, any word that comes from a language that doesn't use the Roman alphabet usually ends up getting spelled all kinds of weird.
