In iTunes 8, under "Devices > AppleTV > TV Shows" is anyone else seeing "Live Recording" as an option to sync as if it were a TV show? Am I reading too much into this, or is DVR function imminent for AppleTV? See attached JPEG.

The question would be how? There is no tuner in the :apple:TV.

    Net Tuner

Would they really need a hardware tuner? Could they not create a "net tuner" in software?

Could this be some kind of live event streaming feature, such as live sports. The wording is not the best, but to stream it would need to be "recorded" with the feed probably running at least a few seconds behind an actual live event.

If a grand plan for :apple:TV is to ultimately displace cable/satt, they'll need a way to deliver live event content too. With today's announcement about HD TV shows, aren't they just "live event feeds" away from being able to claim to be a bona-fide direct competitor for cable/satt (assuming of course, they could get many/all of the remaining cable network shows on board too)?

that looks like it might something from an attached tv tuner. Still cant see them putting a DVR into the :apple:TV. Would be the same as them putting a net radio recorder on the iPod. Just dont see it happening.

To me it looks like you have a TV show you called Live Recording... what happens when you try and play the file?

    BS.

You either tagged something as that (maybe an export from EyeTV) or you are trying to create a rumour.

    Close thread.

From what I can remember if you record a show with an EyeTV that does not have any info with it, i.e. from a VHS player, then the EyeTV recorder tags it as "Live Recording" and then automatically makes a playlist (usually called EyeTV but that may have changed). I think that is what we are seeing here.

    My Bad

For some reason a podcast of the Republican National Convention, which did not show up in my TV Shows section, was showing up as syncable TV show material in AppleTV. Strangely, the podcast is tagged as "Live Recording," although it did not return as a hit on spotlight search for that tag. Sorry to get hopes up about DVR functionality coming to :apple:TV
