I have a 230 GB library and it is taking forever to load wirelessly. I understand it should take a while, but how long should it take aprox. ?

It takes a long damn time. Apple really needs to move to a server based format where everyone can have their own local libraries and still contribute to the main library on the network that isn't completely loaded for speed.

As it is, I have to maintain my own personal local library with songs I want to listen to now. I share the network library from the server to search for new stuff, but then have to copy it back by hand. :(

It takes some time, but not forever. I'm sharing a 5Tb library. Granted, I've gone wired connection, but even then, before I did it only took like les then a minute to load the library on my ATV1. (Streaming)

Once the libraries been accessed its fast. But with the ATV2 I find that everytime I access a different part of the library the old "accessing movies" wheel of fortune shows up. Short but painfully repetitive.

It isn't really the size of the library but the number of elements in it. iTunes doesn't load the library per say, it loads the index file that tells it where to find all of the data. Thus if you have a library with 5TB but it's 1000 movies, it isn't that bad. But if you have a 250GB audio library with 50,000 songs in it; it's gonna suck.

Via wifi, it does take a LONG time to load a large library (lots of elements, say 50,000+). I have moved to all wired except for the laptops in the house and that helps a lot. But I can't load that huge music library anymore via wifi, it's just a pain in the butt. But then again, since I went to a personal library, I RARELY look at the other one anymore anyway -- I may just delete it.

    Must admit, I havent a 50k item library. Does 20k count? :D

I can imagine at 50k it would take a while.

what speed is your wireless? G or N?

I have about 1.2TB of movies and music and I dont notice it taking too long to load on my wireless ATV2's.

I just noticed it takes a long time if I go to the "Genre" section of movies/TV shows. If I list them by show or unwatched, it doesn't take much time at all...

6TB here, probably takes about 30 seconds to start iTunes after that it's plain sailing to the appleTV's......though the appletv2 is faster to get it together......much better at fast forwarding too.

I have around 125GB in iTunes, I did a reset on my Apple TV, now it has been saying "Loading Library" for 1/2 hour. Is this normal? I know when I first got the Apple TV it didn't take this long, but I had a lot less in my library also.

Yeah, it still is not working. I can't figure it out, it worked great on my old MacBook, I transferred my library to my new MacBook, and I can't get anything to stream to my Apple TV.

I've got about 27000 songs in my 230 GB library. My music is physically on an external hardrive. I opened Home Share on my laptop to load my library and it is taking far to long. Do I just reset and try again? Is the music being physically on an external hardrive an issue? I will go with ethernet on the next try.
