If you use screen sharing between Macs, you might find this useful. There are some other apps like it but I wanted one that displayed the correct machine icon for each Mac, so I created one :)

Any Macs with screen sharing enabled will appear like this:

The name's boring, and there's no app icon - I'm open to suggestions :)

I didn't release it to the App Store because sandboxing prevents it working as well, but it is signed with my developer ID.

You can download it here: http://www.mjrit.com.au/downloads.html

Version 1.1 fixes crash on Mavericks

Version 1.0 of this app crashes under Mavericks, sorry about that...

Version 1.1 fixes that, and will update automatically if you haven't upgraded to Mavericks yet. Otherwise the new version is available at the same download above.

    Version 1.3 fixes Sierra issues

For users of this app, I just discovered a crashing issue with Sierra, but version 1.3 now fixes that.
If you've already updated to Sierra you might need to manually download the app from http://www.mjrit.com.au/downloads.html

Version 1.4 adds support for Back to My Mac, and a new menu bar icon

If you've enabled Back to My Mac then the app will automatically open a connection via BTTM if your Mac isn't available locally. And there's a new menu bar icon so it looks the same on each machine and works better in dark mode :)
