Anyone else got a permanent location icon on their iPhone with iOS16.0.3?

Mine is constantly there with “System Services” and doesn’t go away no matter what I turn off. Things I have done:

- Turned off location entirely
- Disabled Find my iPhone
- Disabled location sharing
- Turned on aeroplane mode
- Rebooted into “Lockdown Mode”
- Rebooted phone multiple times

This doesn’t seem normal… disabling the Status bar icon gets rid of it but on iOS15 it’d either disappear if not in use or turn into a hollow icon

That is odd. I have all of those things enabled and don't have the issue in 16.0.3.

Did you ever find a fix for this? I'm on 16.2 now and recently started having this issue. My phone is barely lasting a day anymore and I can't figure out what to turn off to fix this (short of just nuking location services altogether, which I'm unwilling to do).

Only way I could resolve it before was disabling Find my iPhone, logging out of iCloud, rebooting phone, then logging back into iCloud and Find my iPhone

Not sure it works with 16.2 but I’m getting way more random GPS icons appear which could be causing battery issues? Will try the log out process again

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Edit: it’s been about an hour and it seems to have worked!

Can also try the Reset Location and Privacy option in settings but it’s a bit of a pain
Thanks. I've just done the signing out thing so I'll see if that fixes if first, if not I'll try this next.

Hi there, can you please let me know if this method worked? I erased my phone and restored from iCloud the other day but my Find My is always running in the background still.

Can't say I saw the issue prior to 16.2 but there is a known bug in 16.2 and 16.3b1 that is causing the location to be checked a lot more frequently than before. I ended up rolling back to 16.1.2 and the issue went away on my end. Unfortunately, the signing window is closed now. Hopefully Apple releases an update in January.

I didn’t have any battery drain issue with 16.1.2 either. The battery level stayed flat over night. It was straight line until I woke up. I wish I could go back! Thanks for confirming. I hope this gets reported to Apple by many people.

I edited one of my earlier posts, the signing out thing seems to have fixed my issue.

As @boss.king suggested, you can mitigate this issue by disabling find my. Not sure if you can trick it by temporarily signing out then back in though. Worth a shot I guess.
