I checked my settings and their set to “when using the app” yet this location service has been on all day. Any idea what I’m missing!

Mine has been constantly on as well. If I go in and turn off location services for the weather app it goes away. I have the same setting to use location while using the app and it is on all the time. I restored settings from my iPhone XR. My iPhone XR didn’t have this icon on all the time. I can’t figure out why this phone is different.

I am on iOS 13.1 beta if this makes any difference. I am on the iPhone Pro Max.

I do have an Apple Watch.

It’s just strange that this icon is constant on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and not when I used my iPhone XR.

Didn’t think about that. Good possibility. I didn’t upgrade my watchOS until I had my new iPhone.

Another view.

Should note all my privacy settings are set to “while using” none of them are set on always

I turned off my watch and the icon goes away. My watch turns back on and the icon appears again.

I unpaired my watch and set up the watch as new and the icon is still there. Must be in the new operating system on the watch. Bummer.

I turned my watch off and the icon also disappeared.

Ok could there be a location on the watch separate from the iPhone that’s causing it? My watch just mirrors my iPhone.

I’m having the exact same issue. I don’t even have weather a complication on my watch.

Was hoping 13.1 would fix it. Sounds like it won’t?!

It’s the weather in location settings, you use to get a constant hollow icon if that was set to always and you have a watch, they then removed the always and now allow when using the app is acting like always in regards to weather, which is probably why the weather on dismissing the wake up alarm is now working again as of 13.1.

...yea, I'm also getting the same exact issue?!

Since iOS 13, I am constantly seeing this icon in the status bar:

Its ALWAYS there and has only been ALWAYS there since iO13 (and I'm actually using iOS 13.1.1).

I checked in the Location services under Privacy, and figured out it was the native Weather app causing this :

When I turn this off, and I check the weather app on my Apple Watch, I get a notification asking me if I want to allow the Weather app to use my Location. Even when selecting the 'Whilst Using app' option, the icon seems to stay in the status bar of the phone?!

This never happened before - is this a bug in iOS13?

Same thing happens to me since I upgraded my Watch to WatchOS 6. It's a bit annoying and I find it strange that most people won't complain about this.

Bc you enabled
it during setup at one point in time. You can disable it

...but thats the bug though isn't it.

The fact that we have 'When using app' selected, BUT the location arrows shows ALL THE TIME. It should ONLY show when you open the Weather app on your phone or on your watch, but instead, its showing all the time.....

Weather apps are known for data mining your location and selling this data. Part of problem is weather app software written to do so even when set to only when in use. Quite possible latest IOS software reveals this now. I have turned all my weather apps and many others to never. When I use the app it still shows my weather based on primary location. I ignore the messages to turn on location. Weather is reported by weather station location in city you are in. Weather service does not provide weather for your exact location.

If your watch face is using a weather complication then it is polling for weather all the time. I think you could test this by making sure you have zero watch faces with a weather complication.

...but this is exactly the point - pre iOS 13, even when you had weather complications on your watch, the phone would NOT show the location arrow in the status bar ALL THE TIME, but now it is doing exactly that.

I changed the face of my watch to not use weather — and the location logo is not showing anymore.

clearly a bug within the watch.
