Location services icon always on?

I recently turned on "Frequent Locations" because I learned that was how Maps will let me know where I parked my car, which has come in pretty handy.

I have a few other System Services turned on and using my location data, including "Diagnostics & Usage" and "Routing & Traffic." Now my problem is that Routing & Traffic and Frequent Locations seems to be using my location data around the clock as its icon has not disappeared from the status bar once.

Is this normal and has anyone else experienced this?

all both of those are is telemetry for apple, they dont help ur data usage or battery. unless u actually believe it "helps product quality" by all means.. if not then just turn them off. & enable the actual location features like wifi calling etc

Seen it happen a few times here and there during iOS beta 1-3. A couple things I've had work to stop it.

1: Move over to the widget screen and wait 3-5 seconds and it goes away.

2: If #1 fails. Reboot the device.

1 didn't work, rebooted and it's still there.

What colour is the icon? There are two - one that shows your location is being used right now and one that shows it has been used in the last 24 hrs.

Go to settings > privacy > systems services and scroll right to the bottom. Is the 'status bar icon' option on or off?

If it's on then turn it off. It does not need to show.

To be honest the way systems services track you battery life isn't affected in a huge way like say running maps.

Same problem here on B4. I didn't have this problem on B3.

Same problem with Frequent Locations but for me Location-Based Suggestions is also constantly using the location service. Moreover, HomeKit is constantly geofencing eventhough I don't have a location based trigger enabled. In previous betas and in iOS9 it only used geofencing when I enabled my lights to turn off when I leave home or turn on when I enter home.

Thanks, yeah I think I'll just turn it off. I figured it was actually substantially affecting my battery life in any way. Just annoying to see that icon 24/7.

Resetting All Settings fixed the issue for me.

Mine is doing this also. Frequent locations and location based suggestions are always on. Filled a bug report to Apple, it wasn't the case with iOS 9 and it's certainly not helping the battery life.

Same here. Even after turning the icon in the status bar off in the Settings, I now have a contour of it (not filled in) sitting there. Something is not quite right...

I have also noticed that Siri is eating 5-10% of my battery, without any use from myself and any time associated to it in the battery diagnostic.

I wonder if it can be linked to the location based suggestions always ON. Maybe Siri is always looking for location for these "nearby suggestions" in the widget center.

Update, for me the problem seems to be solved after updating to Public Beta 4. I can turn ON frequent locations and location-based suggestions, and the location services is not always ON for both of them, as well as not always here next to the battery level and bluetooth icon in the top right corner of the screen :)

I was having this problem too, the latest beta fixed it for me and I don't know if it's too early to say but battery life seems to have improved for me
