Hi,

I am the happy owner of an iPhone 8. I am constantly locking and unlocking my phone throughout the day like most people.

Unlocking can be done through the non physical home button but the locking part is done from the side physical button.

I am concerned and this button wearing down with time (the one on my iPhone 4 sure did). Is there a way (other than assistive touch) to lock the phone by say double tapping the screen or any other quick method ?

Thanks !

The phone can go to sleep on its own based on the configured time you would have for it.

The lock button is there for this type of purpose. It's been better compared to the earlier days and most people don't run into issues of it wearing out.

Thanks for your answer. I guess I will stick with the physical button or use assistive touch.

The button is meant to be pressed. It is what it is built for. Don’t be afraid to use your phone exactly as it’s intended.

My wife's iPhone 6 Plus physical button still functions fine as does my Samsung. Use it as designed.
