Lock screen SMS notification

On non-jailbroken iphones, is there an SMS notification/icon on the lock screen? (So if your phone is locked and you miss the SMS notification tone you can hit the 'home' key and see that you have a waiting SMS without having to unlock the phone.) Is it an icon of some sort or a preview of the SMS?

Does anyone happen to have a screenshot of what the lock screen SMS notifications look like on a non-jailbroken iphone?

Yes, you get a notification on the lock screen, either the full SMS or just the name and notification that they've texted you (your choice in the settings).
