Hello! I finally bought an iPhone X a couple of days ago, and I'm enjoying it so far, despite of the things I knew in advance I was going not to like that much...

Well, the thing is the camera is very important for me, and I use google photos to synchronise the pictures in the cloud (because it's free and unlimited). I'm using the .heic format and google photos does upload the .heic format pics and I can see the them without any issue in my macbook pro.

Trying to import the pictures to lightroom, the problem shows up: I can add some images (and edit without problems), but for some others, there's a compatibility issue i can't even see the thumbnail, being all of them .heic. why? Trying to open them in the computer, i realise that the ones i can't open in lightroom, they are "locked" in the preview app, whereas the ones withouth problem are not "locked". If I try to unlock in preview, the program asks me to duplicate the file with a .tiff file (huge!).

Anybody else having this issue? I think i'll switch back to .jpg...

Of course, I can see all of them, but some of them are "Locked", and those that are locked are the ones I can't edit/view in lightroom.

I don't understand, it seems to be a random thing :S

Nobody? Atm, I switched back to jpg. A bit more fine details, Google photos has unlimited storage, and no compatibility issues.

Do not like google and would not use it, but jpeg is about universal to use almost everywhere.

Are the files themselves locked in Finder?

What happens when you open or import them into the photos app?

If I import one of the locked .heic pictures in the photos app, i can edit it there, but if from the app I try to send it to capture one (for example, to edit it in the external program) what I'm actually editing is a .tiff. This is also what preview app want me to do by default to "unlock" the pictures, convert it to .tiff.

My decision is to keep using jpg, at least at the moment: better quality, no compatibility issues, and i don't care about storage (unlimited google storage, external HDD, 256GB iPhone). And still, shooting in .heic, if you want to further edit the picture in a proper app (not the photos app), you need to convert to .tiff or manually to .jpg, so it's more time consuming and at the end, you are duplicating photos, so much more storage...
