ok, I have an old 8gb iPod touch. Its my mother in laws, so i have her iTunes account info and her passcode(s) (a couple it could be, she forgot, its been so long since she's used this iPod)... Not sure what generation it is, but uses a 30-pin connector.

So, the home screen says its locked and to connect it to iTunes. So I plug it into my computer and it says iTunes can't connect because its locked with a passcode. Problem is, The red "iPod is disabled, connect to iTunes" banner is still on the screen and doesn't allow me to enter it. It also doesn't show up as a device or on find my iPhone when i log into her iCloud account via browser.

How can i reset this thing? I can't use the computer she used to use with it, as its down waiting on a new power button to come in to fix it (and has been reformatted twice anyway).

Again, This is my mother in laws iPod, and i DO have her iCloud log in and passcode... i just can't get the iPod to a point where it will allow me to enter the passcode. She's not a tech person, and can't tell me how or why it got to this point. But its definitely hers.

Thanks

With the iPod touch plugged in to the computer, hold down the power and home buttons simultaneously until an iTunes logo pops up on the screen to enter recovery mode. You won't need any iCloud details as Activation Lock requires iOS 7 or later and no 30-pin iPods can install it.

Thanks, trying it now. bit of a dent on the top keeping the power button from working well (and I'm one handed, post-op last week on my left hand)... forgot when the activation lock thing came in. Just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't making another "help me unlock my stolen iDevice" thread like so many other ppl do.

Worried the power button might be messed up. Doubt this thing is worth the cost of parts to fix, being an 8gb 30-pin.
