Locked to t mobile question

I ordered an iPhone from t mobile to use as a hot spot. I paid in full. Will this phone be locked to them or can I switch to another carrier if I want to at some point?

You can unlock after 40 days on the network with the device active and the device must be paid off. They are lenient about the latter requirement and still unlock even if the device isn't paid off if you say you are going on a foreign trip.

Next time if you want to pay in full and want to be unlocked right away buy from Apple. I paid 1100 for mine already unlocked
