Hi, i was wondering if there was an option in osx to lock any files that are currently open. eg, if im editing bob.txt in textedit and sally ftp's into my machine i dont want her to be able to open/edit bob.txt until ive closed it. any direction would be good.

There's a lock option in the "Get Info" panel (Press Command-I when selecting a file). Not sure if this does what you require as I only have a single user account in my computer and can't test with multiple accounts. But I can say it does not let you as the owner save over a file with it enabled.

There's also changing permissions on the file. You can give your "group" and "others" no access underneath and see if that works.
