I am currently working on a classic Mac Pro 5,1 project and I am trying to find a compatible Mac ROM (vBIOS) file for an ASUS GeForce GT 640 DirectCU Silent 2GB DDR3 (GT640-DCSL-2GD3) graphics card so I can get the Apple boot screen.

I have been searching for a reliable source or repository for this specific .rom file but haven't had much luck finding a verified version for the 2GB variant.

Can someone help´s 🙂

I understand that flashing GPUs is deprecated nowadays for MacPro4,1/5,1 systems and that EnableGop is the preferred approach.

However, in my specific case the ASUS GT640-DCSL-2GD3 currently has a legacy-only VBIOS without UEFI GOP support. Because of that, EnableGop alone does not help, since there is no GOP driver present in the ROM for the BootROM patch to use.

That is why I was looking either for:

  • a GOP-enabled PC ROM for this exact card, or
  • a compatible Mac EFI / hybrid ROM.
Unless I am missing another method to initialize a legacy-only Kepler card with EnableGop?

Add GOP to the Asus own GPU firmware, do not use other GPU firmware.
