Have been trying multiple new things - High Sierra GM build, RX580 egpu, new Native Instruments Mikro, updated software (Adobe), etc. nMP upgraded to 8 core 3.3, 32GB. Thunderbolt Display.

Now getting random lockups and/or beach balls where I only have a mouse cursor. Have done a PRAM reset, am unplugging all USB devices and so on.

Any thoughts or suggestions on debugging the situation, any utilities that may help?

Will upgrade to production High Sierra tomorrow to see if that helps.

Have updated to 10.13 and it consistently locks up when loading up with “yes” testing. Gets to 100% load but temperature still is in the 50s or 60s Celsius.

I guess next step is to do a clean reload of MacOS and see if it runs properly...any other suggestions?

“Yes” testing does not lock up under safe mode (12+ hours) so it’s not hardware. Anyone with thoughts or suggestions?

Loathe to do a clean install if I don’t have to.

Yeah, that's something that very few Windows users have had to do since Windows 98.

I’m sure that’s tongue-in-cheek, but if it’s the best course of action I’ll do it.
