Log and transfer over FireWire?

I use a AVCHD camera which uses USB to capture but since I use a HF10 and it's dual memory, I was wondering if I could record to a SDHC card then use a FireWire card reader to log and transfer. I mainly want to do this so I don't have to plug my camera to a power outlet every time I want to import footage and I was wondering if this could possibly speed up the transfer process.
