I've posted to macrumors before.

I also used to post to Apple's own forums. I have an id for reaching the website, updating my profile, probably for other things too. I can log onto the website, but when I try to get to the forums section, I'm told that I need to set a user name, and if I provide the user name I've had in the past, I'm told that's in use, choose another. When I choose another I'm told that my email address already has a user name -- I have no idea how to get out of this catch22. I can't find anything in Apple's Contact Us places that would be appropriate for asking this question

Help, please?

I would try to click on Forgot password? and see if perhaps you are using the wrong pw associated with the username you originally set up.

Failing that, you may have to email them to reset both the user id and the pw that are linked to your email address. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Thank you.

I've found an old thread where many people complain of the same problem, and someone provides a solution that doesn't work for all, but did work for me: I can log onto Apple's website by using my email address as user name: this doesn't work for Forums. I need to login with the user name I long ago chose for Forum; fortunately I had chosen the part of my email address before the @ sign Here's that thread:
