My fiancee's logic board broke on her macbook. Is there away to take out the hard drive and get the information Pictures etc off of it? Would buying an external hard drive enclosure work? Could i access the data with a pc or would only a mac work?

Thank you in advance for your help.

The drive is formatted with HFS+. Windows cannot read this format without special drivers. Its a regular 2.5" SATA drive. If you put it in either another Macbook (Pro) or an external hard drive case, then you can either boot from it or get data you need off of it.

You can take the hard drive out of the macbook, by unscrewing the the metal bracket on the inside, once you take out the battery.

That's a perfect guide on how to do it.

Once the hard drive is out, you can use an external enclosure to connect it to a pc, it doesn't have to be a mac, if you have the correct software.
Media Four have a program called mac drive which allows windows computers to read mac formatted hard drives.
The download gives you a 6 day free trail, plenty of time for you to take the data off.

Hope this helps :)
