Hi

My 3.5mm headset jack port on my Macbook Pro is not working, therfore is it possible to use a USB port? to connect a headset for listening to music?

Its intended for MIDI music production via Logic Pro X,

Macbook Pro 2013.

Yes, there are lots of options to do this. Just search for ‘mac usb headphone adapter’ on Amazon or similar, and research some options. :)

For example:
(note: I am not personally recommending or vouching for that specific product, but just to give you an idea of the kind of thing...)

It needn’t cost much, but obviously you get what you pay for to some degree. Be aware most of the adapter will essentially be acting as a small external soundcard. There are many that offer line/mic inputs like the example I posted too, if that is something you think you may need or find useful.

Beyond that and for (usually a little) more money there are also multi-functional hubs (more usb ports, sd card readers etc) that may include a headphone jack, and then for serious cash there’s also full audio interfaces for high quality, pre-amped inputs and professional balanced connections (but that sounds like way overkill for what you’ve asked for here for the time being).

Maybe someone else will have tried some and be able to recommend a specific product.

How then does the USB adapter have the ability to act as an audio out port ? I don't think an audio interface would suffice as I'll be working with MIDI not audio, therefore no need for AD / DA converters.

To hear audio from a computer there has to be a digital audio converter somewhere between the bits and your ears.

To learn about USB audio do one of those internet search things.
