Meh. It will have Retina and a A6 in 6 months. :apple:

A6 wouldn't be powerful enough to drive 4 megapixels in an efficient manner. The A5X and A6X are designed specifically for Retina displays and thus have a larger die size than their A5 and A6 equivalents for iPhones and non-retina iPads.

A lot of people are making this way too complicated.

They could make a few more sheckles releasing a $329 non-retina version for the holidays and then releasing a retina one next spring.

Follow the money. They are looking to sell 10 million units this quarter and no they will sell them retina or not. So might as well get all the milk out of the cow you can now.....then come back for seconds with the retina version next year.

I think its also logical that it will get Retina probably in the next generation.

Apple has iOS devices and Mac with Retina displays ranging from 3.5'' to 15''.

I think they can make a 7.9'' Retina display.

Great post OP!

I think a lot of people don't realize that a retina display would require an A5X or A6X which would be too big and hot, plus require a larger battery

I posted this in another thread:

iPad mini buyers are paying a premium price not because of the "quality" components, but because of the dismal manufacturing yield rate of the touchscreen module.

"According to a new report, the primary culprit for the mini's pricing is low yield rates for new touchscreen technology called GF DITO (or GF2) found in the slate.....DigiTimes' sources say the DITO film sensors used in the mini have run into mass production issues, making it about 40 percent to 50 percent more expensive that similar 7-inch devices that employ OGS or G/G touch-screen tech."

http://www.techradar.com/us/news/mob...-price-1107427

That would make me worry that there may be serious quality issues with the first batch of minis as Apple may lower their QC bar to get more on the shelves for the holidays. Good luck you early adopters......

Two reasons why.

1) Apples determination to insure a high gross profit.

2) They now have a reason to offer the mini w/ retina at a higher price soon.

The nutters are going to buy this one to add to their "shrine " and then upload their new YouTube video.

When the Retina comes out there's another sale and a new YouTube shrine video.

The display causes most of the heat in the iPad 3 (though the A5X contributes a bit) however any iPad Mini with Retina display would use the A6X. There is no reason to build a new product with a 45nm CPU.
