I am having a problem controlling Login items.

I have tried controlling them through System Preferences - User - Login in Items
I only have one item listed.

But when I restart my 2010 iMac with Snow Leopard the following items open iCal, Mac Mail, uTorrent, VLC player, Tune Up, Word, 1password

I tried viewing each items preferences but can't find an option to control Login.

Help please

There are a few things you can check:
  • Check your Login Items under System Preferences > Accounts to see what you have automatically launching, as you've already done.
  • Right-click on the app icons on the Dock, select Options and uncheck "Open at Login"
  • Also check /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Users/yourusername/Library/LaunchAgents/ for items launching at startup
